Frequently Asked Questions for State Employee Purchases

What do I need to do to place an order?

Click on the 'Sign up for an account' link at the top of the page. This form is only required with your first order. Please provide a photo copy of your badge or employee pay stub. For custom orders full payment is required. Payment is made by credit card, money order, certified funds or personal check payable to N.C. Correction Enterprises. NO CASH PAYMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

How much can I purchase? Is there a monetary limit each calendar year?

The maximum annual purchase amount (January through December) for each individual is $2,500.

What do you need from me to place an order for a custom item?

You must provide full specifications for all custom items so that a quote can be given to you prior to ordering. These items include custom wood furniture, stainless steel and black iron metalwork, embroidered goods, reupholstery and print. Reupholstery and Print orders also require their own order form; these forms are also located on our website.

How will my order be shipped?

Your order can be shipped to your place of employment, your residence or it can be picked up at our warehouse in Apex, NC, as noted on the Order Form. Delivery fees will be applied if a home delivery is requested. Taxes are charged where indicated and applicable.

When will I be able to buy eyeglasses from Correction Enterprises?

Optical sales to DOC employees will begin on April 1st, 2008. Optical sales to all other state employees will begin on June 1st, 2008.

How do I order eyeglasses?

You must first make an appointment with Lisa Bailey at 919-716-3632. She will ask you to complete an 'Optical Order Form' at that time. When you come to your appointment, you must bring a valid eyeglass prescription.

When will sales of retail items begin? Where will it be located?

Retail sales for DOC- or state seal-embroidered shirts, hats, bags and tissue boxes will be available on June 1st, 2008. The Retail Sales Showroom is at Correction Enterprises, 2020 Yonkers Road in Raleigh.

What do I need to place an order?

What do you need from me to place an order for a custom item?

How will my order be shipped?

Your order can be shipped via NCCE truck, UPS Ground or common carrier. Delivery fees may apply. The delivery can be made at the project site or your place of business. The risk of loss is passed to you, should you not be present to accept delivery. All sales are subject to applicable Sales Tax under G.S. 104-164.13(40).

Can I re-sell Correction Enterprises products?

PRODUCTS PURCHASED FROM NC CORRECTION ENTERPRISES ARE RESTRICTED FOR USE ON PUBLIC PROJECTS. Contractors are required to sign the PRODUCT USE CERTIFICATION form prior to all purchases. Failure to use product on a public agency project will result in forfeiture of ability to purchase from Correction Enterprises.

Frequently Asked Questions for the PIE program

Is this a "make-work" government program?

Not at all. Each production facility is a professionally managed profit center that is geared toward being competitive in the marketplace.

Are the federal regulations difficult to satisfy?

The federal program requirements are clearly established and achievable. We work closely with you and the BJA in preparing the documentation and ensuring compliance.

If I choose to use my own employees for technical support, will they receive security training?

Yes. The training is provided free-of-charge by the correctional facility.

Are there provisions for back-up workers in the event of staffing problems or shortages?

There is an eager labor pool available to take the place of offenders who are not available, are terminated, or are released and no longer incarcerated.

Can I hire and fire offenders? (Employer Model Only)

Yes. Offenders apply to work for you just as any potential employee would, and you are free to choose from the pool of applicants in the hiring process. You are also free to terminate the assignment when appropriate.

Can I hire former offenders after release?

Absolutely. This is entirely your choice, and many employers find this an excellent benefit of working in the correctional setting.

Do I need to supply my own staff?

There are several production models from which to choose. You may use correctional industries' staff, your staff, or a combination. When developing a business plan, we work with you to determine the best model for your production needs.

Who supervises the offenders?

Each work group is supervised by a qualified correctional industries supervisor who comes into the facility each day to work with the offenders. Supervisors may be from your staff, the correctional industries' staff, or both depending upon the business model you select.
